(■From our own Correspondent.)' Waitara, July 14. Mi'. A. Hawkins, wlio lias been on an extended visit to his relatives in Christchurch, returned last evening. A woman sufferer was conveyed from Kawhia this morning by tlie s.s. Arapawa, and taken into the New Plymouth ■Hospital per motor car. She was in rather a critical condition, but none the] worse for the journey down. The committee of the .Seaside Improvement Society met last evening to make a presentation to Corporal 0. F. Turner, who is at present on his final hard worker in the interests of the Society, and was presented sith a case of pipes in appreciation of his valuable services. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent in the Clifton Hall yesterday, when the work done by the Young Ladies' Sewing Guild was exhibited, and greatly admired by the large number present. The Mayor opened the proceedings with a very appropriate speech, after which a musical programme was gone through and afternoon tea dispensed.
