SPLENDID TRIBUTES TO FRANCE Received July 14, 0 p.m. Loudon, July 14 Remarkable Empire-wide arrangements were luude to celebrate the French National Fete-day. Tricolors were gelling everywhere on behalf of the Croix Rouge (Red Cross) and the organisers expect to raise £IOO, OIK). There were many special matinees. Other features included a British Workers' League monster demonstration. : Queen Alexandra sent a special message commending the noble enterprise to the people of the Empire. The TJaHy Chronicle publishes a series of messages irout the Overseas Dominions, including one from Mr. Massey, expressing homage, to France. FRENCH PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE M. Poincaire (French President) in * message to the Bntis.li people, expresses Fiance's unbounded admiration of the deeds of Britain's glorious navy, and of ' tlie wonderful development of the Empire's mighty resources. He also sends affectionate greetings of lasting brotherhood to the United Kingdom and Dpminions Overseas, AUSTRALIAN TRIBUTES. DONATIONS TO FRENCH SOCIETIES, Received July 14, 11.5 p.m. Sydney, July 14. Similarly witli other parts of the Em* pire, the Commonwealth has seized the opportunity of the French fete-day to honor our ally with a great display of tricolor flags. The principal features were a Requiem Mass for French soldiers and military parades. At meetings in town halls resolutions were carried expressing appreciation of the valor of the French. » At official luncheons, speakers eulogised France. The Red Cross Society donated '£looo to the French Society, and the woolbrokers on the Sydney exchange subscribed £3244, which they have present ed to the French League of Mercy.
