The monthly meeting of the above Board was held this morning. Present: Messrs J. McAllister (chairman), C. D. Sole, A. Meredith, . Hine, ChristoiMl, Walters and J. Smith. The medical superintendent (Dr. Steven) reported that during the month 12 patients were admitted, 8 discharged, and 15 remained. Two operations were performed under anaesthetics. The Health Inspector (Mr. Gray) reported that during the month one case of phthisis wa=, notified, and the patient will probably go to a sanatorium. Sample.? of milk were taken and forwarded to the Dominion Analyst, and were found to comply with the standard. Bread was weighed at all the bakers' shops and found to be correct. Nurse McLachlan, district nurse at Whangamomona, reported that during the month she had attended three cases, one of a serious nature. The medical director of the Tuberculosis Institution at Cliristchurch wrote regretting they could not accept patients from north of Canterbury, owing to the institution being overcrowded. The Taranaki Hospital Board wrote enclosing a report from Dr. Walker, superintendent (already published) regarding the proposal to utilise the old hospital by converting it into a home for incurables. The chairman said it was satisfactory to know the position the Board was in. At the conference of Boards be was more than taken with the representatioms put forward by the delegates of the Taranaki Board. Mr. Walter said he was not sorry that the Taranaki Board had decided not to proceed with the establishment of a permanent home, at any rate for the present. Accounts amounting to £203 9s 6d were passed for payment, j GENERAL. The attendance of some of our "city fathers'' at the council meetings is anything but satisfactory. Two councillors have, never attended a meeting in the ikw chambers, and at the start of last night's meeting the Mayor and four councillors were present. Half an hour later two other councillors wandered in. Just hefo-e adjourning Cr. Lawson asked the Mfivor if two of the committee had not forfeited their seats. He was surprised at the aimthy shown by the conn c-illors, whom he named. At the opening of the municipa l chambers three of the councillors were absent, and never lm<l the courtesy to send an apology for their absence. This he considered a personal insult to the Mayor. The Mayor said he thought some of the councillors might give more attention to the council's affairs, and a little more punctuality at the meetings would be appreciated, and he hoped there would be an improvement in the future. It seems to 'your iwn" that if the councillors referred to have the interests of the borough at heart they will promptly tender theii resignations and make way for those who are willing to give the necessary time, or :lse make amends for the past by attending the council's meetings regularly. =
