THE DEUTSCHLAND. FURTHER DETAILS. Washington, July 10. The Deutschland has arrived at Baltimore. The consignees have announced that her purpose is purely commercial. She will be docked in a special spy-proof yard. The cargo taken on board for Germany will be 500 tons of copper, rubber, and nickel. New York, July 10, A United States officer boarded the submarine Deutschland, and he says that her papers show her gross tonnage to be 791 tons and net tonnage 414 tons. She is engaged in the freight trade from Bremen to Boston. She left Bremen on June 14 and stayed at Heligoland for nine days. The British Consul states lhat he knew more than a week ago that the Deutschland was en route for America. Some New York newspapers assert that another submarine has left for America. The Deutschland is discharging cargo, jrotectcd by armed guards. Her description shows that she has a high conning tower and several covered manholes leading to the crew's quarters and the engine-room. The wireless is mounted on telescopic masts. Washington has received a report that the submarine is unarmed. Capta : n Kairig states that the vessel belongs to the Undersea Company and that it will be followed by the Bremen and others. He spent the day at the bottom of the English Channel, the crew playing the gramaphone. He brought 750 tons of dye-stuffs valued at £200,000. He can descend 300 ft. and submerge for four days. Their food consisted of tinned meat, fruit, bread, and also champagne. RUSSIANS SINK GERMAN STEAMER. Received July 17, 5.5 p.m. Petrograd, July 10. A communique states: Our submarines sank a large German steamer, laden with iron on, in the Gulf of Bothnia. IN THE BALTIC. OPPOSING SQUADRONS IN ACTION. Received July 11, 8.50 p.m. Copenhagen, July 11. A shsrp action took place between German and Russian patrolling squadrons in the Baltic, off Haefringe, on Sunday light.
