STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday. Tile Premier has informed the Borough Council that he will be pleased to insert a clause in the "Washing-up" Bill validating the Council's action in erecting the new municipal buildings. On Satiuday evening, the section of land donated by Mr. Campbell Jackson for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund was drawn at His Majesty's pictures. Mrs. Cole, of Toko, was the winner. The sale of tickets realised £(> S. A HAD CASE. On Saturday, Broadway was full of excitement for a time, the behaviour of a soldier in uniform being the cause of the trouble. This individual not only insulted ladies, but his language was of a sultry nature. He at last came in contact wirh Constable Robertson, and, refusing that officer's persuasion to go home, he replied by abuse, with the result that the constable decided to take him in hand, but it required the assistance of civilians before he was finally arrested. This morning, Paul Zimmerman was charged before Messrs J. Masters and C. D. Sole, .I.P.'s, with (1) drunkenness, (2) obscene language, (3) resisting the police, and pleaded guilty to all the charges. Sergeant Dale said it was a bad case. Accused had returned from the front, vherc hj? had contracted fever. He had lost his pay-book, and could not get his money. In reply to the Bench, the sergeant siatcd that accused was a G.-rman-born Britisher. The Bench drew the attention of the police to the number of returned soldiers v.ho partook of liquor too freely. The accused had certainly disgraced'himself, ard would be convicted and discharged for drunkenness, fined CI" for obscene language, and convicted for resisting the police. The Bench also ordered him to be handed over to the military authorities to be further dealt with.
