The Norddeutsehe Allegemine publishes a semi-official answer by Herr Bethmann Hollweg to critics who reproach himtrith not explaining what the Germans are fighting for. Herr Hollweg States that before peace is concluded he has three objects to achieve, firstly, he desires the elosing of the doors to the r.ttack now opened on Germany's heart from strategic positions in Belgium, France, and in the East. Secondly, he aims at pushing Russia behind the rivers, and the creation of Poland as a buffer >tate, with the consequent shortening of the Rnsso : German frontier. Thirdly, he requires that assurances shall he ffiven Germany that her trade with the world »-an develop unhindered. HUNGARIAN DISCORD. BTQRJIY SITTING OF CHAMBER. SLOWS AND MISSILES EXCHANGED. Budapest pipers report that a stormy sitting of the Chamber occurred on Wednesday, the Opposition violently attacking the Hungarian Minister of Finance on the question of Hungary's financial disorders. The sitting ended in blows, and some of the deputies throwing inkstads. The Opposition finally left, refusing 1o discuss further with a Government which sacrified Hungarian interests. The Deutsche Zeitung says: We did not begin the hunger war, and the stomachs of the imprisoned English may feel the result of Britain's policy. TOTAL CASUALTIES. London, July 9. The Press Bureau reports that the Germans state their casualties in June were 88,031, giving a grand total of #,012,637, apart from naval and colonial losses. ANXIETY AND FOREBODINGS. THE TRUTH BECOMING KNOWN. Received July 10, 11.45 p.m. London. July 10. The Daily Telegraph's Rotterdam correspondent states that a great change has occurred ir. the outlook of Germany, and that the people, instead of showing comparative confidence, have evinced the deepest anxiety for the past few days. The newspapers warn the public to expect a furious and prolonged conflict. The Government and higher military circles in Berlin are also *3lled with serious forbodings. The communiques still say that the Allies have gained no serious advantage, but alongr, oide there are posted the Allies' communiques giving the lists of nlaces, orisoueri and booty captursd.
