A communique states: The artillery activity from the coast to Ancrebrook, , has increased in strength. Fighting has ' continue from Ancrebrook to the Somme. J Minor progress has been made liy the English at Thiepval, which was balanced by our counter-attacks. We evacuated * the small village of Hem. In the Somme valley the French captured Belloyeeii-San-Terre. Fighting is at a standstill round Estrees. We repulsed counterattacks in a wood south-west of Vaux and Damloup Hill. Further partial Russian attacks were made south-east of Riga and elsewhere, but all wcr repulsed. DECISIVE CLIMAX NOT REACHED. ALLIES' SUPERHUMAN EFFORTS. Received July 7, 11 p.m. New York, July 7. Von Weigand, the World's Berlin correspondent, says that nowhere in responsible quarters does the belief prevail that the Allies' offensive is Hearing an end or that the worst is over. On the contrary, 'it is thoroughly realised that the decisive climax has not been reached, and that the Allies will make almost superhuman efforts to crush the German lines. HARVEST PROSPECTS POOR.
