We are in receipt of a copy of Mr. Louis Raemaker's celebrated cartoons on the German Huns tyranny and depredations in France and Belgium. Copies may be obtained free from Mr. R. 0 Ellis, hon. secretary of the Taranaki County Recruiting Committee. A stronger indictment of the tyrannous and unspeakable Huns could not be portrayed. At yesterday's meeting of the Clifton County Council, a circular was received from the Under-Secretary of Lands stating that with a view to encouraging the planting of trees for shelter and other purposes, the Forestry Department was prepared to sell and supply trees. No action was taken, but later Cr. Sander moved, "That this Council fully recognise the desirability of encouraging tree planting, and is of opinion than an expert forester should be available to advise as to the kinds. of trees suitable for planting in different localities and generally as to laying out of forests and plantations." The resolution was carried. The Telegraph Department is about tq instal an extra wire between New Plymouth and Hawera, and it is expected that the work will be commenced within a few days.
