SUDDEN AND VIOLENT RUSHES. AGAINST THE RUSSIAN LINE. SAVAGE FIGHTING. HUNS' DIABOLICAL DEVICES. Received July 6, 1 a.m. Petrograd, July 5. The German plans take the form of sudden and violent rushes against various points of the Russian lines, seeking to penetrate them in the arc from Kolki to Lipa, or press inwards at fcatictsz and Liniestka. The fighting is of the most savage description. The Russians are infuriated by the enemy's use of explosive and glass bullets and other diabolical devices. Both General Mackensen and General von Hindenberg are reported to nave arrived at Kovel, where, with General von Linsingen, they are preparing a counteroffensive. A German prisoner possessed the Kai-sc-r's order to recover these positions by June 23. GERMANS HURLSO BACK. FIERCE BATTLE RAGING. Petrograd. July 4. A thousand prisoners were taken at Lowesiipa, between Dnhno and Sokal. where the Germans have been hurled back westward. A communique says:—Fierce battles between the Styr and. Stokhod continue. Our troops at Kolomea dislodged the enemy from several positions. We pierced the works north-east of Baranowitz- The battle continues. We took 2772 prisoners at Baranowitzi on Monday, and eleven cannon. RUSSIAN ATTACKS REPULSED. AN AUSTRIAN REPORT. Received July 5, 10 p.m. Vienna, July 5. A communique states:—Wc cpulsed the Russian advances in the Bukovina. The fighting at Kolomea continues with undiminished violence. The attacks westward of the town did not penetrate or lines. The Austro-Gcrmaiis are advancing south-east of Todtimacz. Massed Russian attacks in the Volhynia were repulsed everywhere with heavy losses. GERMAN VERSION. • Berlin, July 4. A German communique states: — The Russians attacked Jcnerul Hindenburg at several points without result. An attack against Prince Leopold of Bavaria iva; also without result. One t lousand eight hundred and ninetysix were taken prisoners in the latter attack'. General Linsingen's ittaek has progres-ed. General Bothincr made a quick advance and forced the enemy back south-east of Thimaez lor five and a quarter miles on o front of 12'/ 3 miles.
