DESPERATE FIGHTING. ITALIANS DRIVE BACK DESPERATE ASSAULTS. Received July 5, S p.m. Rome, July 5. A communique states that there was desperate fighting on Sunday on the northern slopes of the Pasubio. Our infantry drove back repeated assaults, and counter attacked with the bayonet, inflicting heavy losses. There has been heavy fighting in the Posina Valley. We occupied the northern edge of the Assa Valley. There was a violent engagement at Montfalcone. METHODS OF GENTLE TEUTONS. Received July 5, 10.15 p.m. Rome, July 5. Following the death of horses, an examination was made of oats imported from America. It disclosed that the oats had been mixed with small doublepointed steel forks, evidently the Huns' device.
