Mr. M. J. Brennan, of Opunake, wno lias been laid up for some time in hospital at Haweru. is now (the Star reports) well on the way to recovery. News has been received of the death, from entcrk; fever, mi June flth, of Trooper Arthm .lames Morshead, third son of Mrs Morshead, formerly of New Plymouth, but now of Tlawcra. Deceased, who went to the front with the Third Reinforcements, was formerly factory assistant at Manutahi and also at Havelock. An old Waimate Plains resident passed away on Sunday, in the person of Mrs. E. Mewing. Mr. and Mrs. Mewing came to Taranaki a pood many years ago and for a considerable time were farming in the Manain district, but latterly had resided in Hawera. Mrs. Mewing had attained the good old ape of SI, and for some time past it had been seen that her hold of life was but frail. Besides her husband there is a large grownup family—Mrs. S. Hoard, Westmere; Mrs. Sileoek. Wanganui: Mrs, I). Mitchell, Manaia; Mrs. Walter Stoddavt, Mrs. Ci. Sutherland, Mrs, W. A. Duckworth, Miss Mewing, and Mr. R. Mewing, o? Mew Plymouth.—Star. One of the most recent enlistments in Auckland was Jiat of Mr. David liallaher, who is best remembered as haviiiLr been captain of the famous All Black' football team that toured the Old Country. At the moment of his enlistment Air. Gailaher had just received cabled news „hat his youngest brother was killed in the fighting line in France, and it was nis intention to take his place. Mr Oallahor has had previous military experience, having served in the lioer War, and having returned with the rank of sergeant major. News of Ills enlistment will be of interest to Rugby footballers throughout New Zealand. At one time it was suggested that a Rugby Battalion should be sent to the front, but it is interesting to remark that at the present moment nearly every Rugby footballer of note is already on active service.
