♦ LATEST SHIPPING DEAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Chvistchurch, July 3. Mr. A. W. Bennett, manager of tlic Xew Zealand Shipping Company, speaking nf tlie shipping deal, said it was perfectly true that the Peninsula and Oriental Company would obtain the eontrolling interest in the New Zealand shipping trade. Within the next lavo days an advantageous proposal would be placed before the holders in the New Zealand company, and if these were accepted they would be enable to exchange their stock for P. and 0. stock. The new proposals affect only ordinary shares, not debenture or preference shares. There would be no change in the management of the company, and the line would run as before as a separate unit. The Peninsula and Oriental Company wonld amalgamate just as it did with the British-India Line last year the boats running quite distinct from the P. and 0. Lme, although that company would have the controlling interest.
