SIX O'CLOCK CLOSING.
To the Editor. Sir,—The following Press Association message from New Plymouth appears in the New Zealand Times and other papers of Wednesday: "At a meeting to-night presided over by the Mayor, representatives of various denominations and labor being on the platform, resolutions were passed, etc." (Here follow tlie resolutions passed at the meeting in the Good Templar Hall on Tuesday evening, which presumably are correctly reported). This message is certainly misleading. The meeting was not a well-attended one, and was certainly not representative of the citizens of New Plymouth. Also the Mayor specially took the opportunity of making his position clear, that he was presiding in his official capacity and held no political opinion in respect to the position. It would he interesting to know hy what authority "the various denominations of labor" were pledged to the resolutions carried, and further whether Mr. Cathro, who spoke as labor's representative, was an authorised representative of labor to present their views on this debatable question. Thanking you in anticipation,—l am, etc., WORKER.
