OLD PEOPLES HOME DESTROYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. The Alexandra Home for aged people, situated in Waimea Road, wag totally destroyed by Are at 10 o'clock to-night. The outbreak originated in the smoking-ro.-m nt the end of the southern wing of the building, and quickly snread. "The water supply failed totally, and- the ti-'gade were helpless, and the inmates, numbering 377 of both sexes, were removed fwfoly and accommodated ai the hospital mid in private houses for the night. Tile building was of wood, and erected about eight years ago. It was the property of the Nelson Charitable Aid Board. Insurances on the building total £2OOO in the Norwich Union and £2OOO in the Royal.
