THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. GOVERNMENT CALLED UPON TO* GIVE EFFECT TO IT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. - Wellington, Last Sight., A public meeting took place in the Town Hall to-night, and whs addressed by advocates of six o'clock closing of hotel bars, The Mayor presided. The speakers were: The Bishop of: Wellington (Dr. Sprott), Dr. Platt-Mtlln, Dr. Newman, Rev. Dr, Gibb, Commissioner Hodder (Salvation Arnvv), and Mr. John Hutcheson. Resolutions were carried that the adoption of six o'clock closing of liquo - .' bars is urgently demanded by the supreme necessity of developing and concentrating ir the service of the Empire the full energy of the Dominion for the purpose of winning the war, ( a'lSo directing the Government's attention, to the mandate of the people given uy resolutions of public meetings and petitions to Parliament bearing a hundred thousand signatures, and calling on the Government and Parliament to give immediate effect to the will of the people.
