TRAMWAYS AND LIGHTING.
ONE ENGINEER TO HAVE CHARGE Tlic special committee set up for the purpose recommended to Monday's meeting of the Council llmt the" Electric Lighting and Tramways Departments be combined, on the grounds of economy and efficiency. Mr. R. H. Bnrtley (tramways engineer), has been offered the combined position and has, 011 consideration, accepted it. His salary will be £4OO, with two annual increments of £25, Mr. H. Black's engagement as Electric Light engineer is to be terminated as at December 31, Ifllfi, and in view of his long service the Council has adopted the committee's recommendation that he be granted leave of absence on full pay as soon as Mr. Bartley takes up his duties.
