OPUNAKE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The concert in aid of the funds of the Rgmont Nursing Association was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening before a good house, considering the very unfavorable weather. Those who contributed items were Mesdames C. Fcaver and Hardy, Misses Keoghan, Thompson, and McGrctth, Rathbone, Revs. Papakura and Gosnell. Hodgson's orchestra, consisting of eight instrumentalists, played two selections—"The Spirit of Napoleon," and "Cavalier.' 1 The concert was a good production, one of the best in song and music that has been given in Opunake for some days. Mr. K. Cannnell provided the music for the dance. The Association should clear about £ll. Rev. 0. M. Stent was chairman of the. concert. Mr. M. ,T. Macßevnolds (secretary), was also present, and returned thanks to the public and performers. The latest advice is that Mr. W. J. Brennan is making slow progress. His many friends will be pleased at this During the last four days his condition was such as t.o cause his relatives and friends grave anxiety.
Archbishop O'Shoa paid a visit to Opu. nake on Wednesday, and remained here for a couple of days. He visited the Catholic School, and interested himself in the progress of the scholars. On Saturday evening, a party of "tinsmiths" went out from Opunake to Mr. R. Campbell's new residence on Iliaia Road to welcome him "home" with his .bride.
The Red Cross Mart is well patronised every week, considering the size of our population, and the Ladies' Guild is doing good work regularly. Tt will be found that the local ladies have acted their part in assisting the good cause, equally with their sisters in other parts et .the Dominion.
Messrs. Hughson (chairman), and Moore, of the Opnnake Harbor Board, have spent a week in Wellington on financial matters in connection with the Opunake Harbor Boad, Their visit was principally in connection with loan matters, and the deputation intend to play their last cards in connection with obtaining the loan under the five per cent, margin. After that is (lone the Board will probably (if unsuccessful in their five per cent, loan) face the ratepayers on the question of increased interest. The present loan proposals will cease by effluxion of time, and consequently the last kick is now being made,
