SIX O'CLOCK CLOSING.

DEPUTATION TO PRIME MINISTER. Wellington, Last Night*. A deputation from professional and business men. in Wellington waited on the Prime Minister to-day to protest against the proposal to bring in 0 o'clock closing of hotels, on the ground that it was not necessitated by the conduct of soldiers and the public, and that the economic necessity of such a proposal had not been demonstrated in the slightest degree. Mr. Massey replied that the matter was being carefully investigated by "the Petitions Committee of the House, which had not yet reported. When the Committee reported to Parliament the report would be referred to the Cabinet. He would have very much pleasure in conveying the representations, and they would be given due thought and consideration.
