Christchurch, Yesterday. A nautical enquiry into the mishap to the steamer Opouri, off Waipapa iPoint, resulted in a decision that the submerged object which the vessel struck was, in the Court's opinion, a rock, but that all necessary precautions had been taken. The certificates of Captain Pearson and the second mate (Brown) were returned. No order was made su) to cost*.

THE GOLDEN GATE. The San Francisco Chronicle of May 20 says:—"With braces squared to favoring winds for long sea distances, full and by on long beats to windward, and always keeping up a rattle of knots, the four-masted bajque Golden Gate made a record for the round run to Wellington of ninety-four days. The big sailing ship came in late on Thursday evening, and yesterday morning, after pratique, Captain H. N. Burgess told of the record he had made, giving credit to his vessel and crew, and telling little or nothing of the apt seamanship that enabled Him to find all the wind- spaces and none of the calm, spots. Captain Lewis, port captain_ for Hind, Rolph and Co., owners of the vessel, was one of the first to go aboard and congratulate Captain Burgess on his remarkable run round. He carried a message of congratulation from the owners. The Golden Gate brought 7000 bales of hemp. After unloading she will make another voyage to New Zealand. The Golden Gate made the trip from this port to Wellington in forty-eight days, and the return trip in forty-six."
