FOOTBALL.

STRATFORD v. S.D.H.S. The first Shield match in the Senior [Cadet competition was played at Stratford last week at Victoria Park. The proceeds Were devoted to the fund to aid the' mother of the late Sergeant Dewar, hut only a small sum was taken rat the gate. The latter part of the game was played in pouring rain, and the ground being very 'sloppy, fast play was impossible. A few minutes after the kick-off Stratford scored, but the try was unconverted. Almost immediately another try was registered, hut the kick failed. At half-time Stratford was leading by six points to nil. In the second spell the School team forced the play, and after some very brilliant work a score resulted. The kick was successful. The School team began a very spirited attack, but ho score resulted, and when the whistle sounded the scores were: Stratford 8, S.D.H.S. 5. W. Kivell scored for the Cadet 3, and Tatton scored and Coutts converted for the! School. Mr. B. Bergin acted as referee.—Post.
