TWO DOLLAR MOVIES.
• TRIANGLE PICTURES FOR NEW ZEALAND. A million pounds is tlio modest sum that lias been liandjeil tn three men in America to spend on motion pictures, and when that million has gone there will be another, and still another, to take its place. The men in whom several million pounds' worth of'confidence is thus vested are D. W. Griffith, Mack Sennctt and Thomas TT. luce. In the past they Iliavo produced photo-plays which, in both comedy and drama, rank higher than any other.;. They will, in the future, he responsible for a new brand ami a new era in motion pictures, to be introduced to New Plymouth pic-ture-goers shortly, known as the Triangle. D. W Griffith's previous film productions have included ''The Escape," "The. Outcast'' and ''The Avenging Conscience, " though he frankly admits they are but glimmers of what will be forthcoming from his side of the Triangle. Mack Sennctt is the be=t known as the originator of the Keystone comedies, and the non-appearance of new Keystones foi some time is explained by the fact that the whole, of the organisation has become part of the Triangle, under Sennctt's guidance, and has been preparing a long list of feature comedies of a minimum length of two reels to be released with each Triangle programme. New laugh-getters with international reputations, including Weber and Fields, Jackson and Clarke, 'Raymond Hitchcock, Eddie Foy and the seven little Koylets, have been engaged, while Hale Hamilton also appeared as lead in one of the new Keystones before coming to Australia. Thomas 11. Ince is known as the film realist, because of his ability to produce and combine big modern spectacles with big modem dramas. "The Wrath of the Gods" is an instance. Working in cooperation, these producers have evolved the Triangles, which have been the centre of wide public interest in America, where they are called the two-dollar movies, that- being the price charged for admission to see them at the Triangle Theatre in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston.
