WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Waitara, June 22. Members of the local recruiting committee are perturbed in their minils over the actiSn of the freezing works' proprietors obtaining exemptions for some of their employees who happen to be single men. One lias been exempted from departure on Monday, and it is feared that this will have'a bad effect on the work of recruiting. as others who have volunteered to go consider such exemptions should not be permitted, as the work can be carried on quite satisfactorily by the married men. A strong-ly-worded telegram has been sent to the member for Taumarimui, asking him to bring tne matter befo.'e the Prime iiin istel and the Minister for Munitions, pointing out the fact that such action will stultily the work of the recruiting committee.
Drivei 1 C. Houldswiob, who is an inmate of the New Plymouth Hospital, paid a visit to Waitarayesterday to meet his Intends. Tie was met at the station by liis Worship the Mayor, members of the Patriotic League and the Band, and was given a warm welcome.
