' London, June 22, Subscriptions to the Commonwealth oan close on Tuesday. Stockbrokers have given it a favorable reception, and the Commoawfealth Bkink is thronged with applicants for the prospectus which will be 1 advertised tomorrow. It announces that the whole proceeds will be paid to the Stateß for public works. Victoria is receiving £050,000, Queensland £1,275,000, South Australia , £775.000, Western Australia £1,100,000, and Tasmania £200,000. (The Commonwealth is issuing four millions 5J per cent, bonds redeemable jn 1920-21 at par, convertible into stock at the holders' option. The final instalment is payable at the end of August. Interest will be payable in February and August. Six months' interest will be payable on February 1. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Duuedin, June 21. At Bnrnside to-day there was a very ;een sale, and last week's e.vtreme rates were maintained. Fat sheep—Prices were on a par with la_st week's rates. Best wethers 33s to "7s fid, extra prime heavy 50s, medium Jfis to 30s, light 21s to 255, extra prime ewes 435, prime 27 0s to 31s, medium 22s Od to 20, light 15s to 21s. Lambs—Prime 24s to 28s Od, medium 20s to 235, light 17s fid to 19s fid, unfinished 14s fid to 17s.
There was a small yarding of pigs. Choppers 117s Od, best baconers 100s, medium 85s, best porkers 00s, medium .">O, slips 2 - 2s, weaners 10s. NEWTOX KING'S REPORT. On Thursday, loth inst., at Ngaere. for Mr. R. McK. Morison's clearing sale, there was a large attendance of buyers, who made good competition for the cows, these selling up to £l4 15s, the herd averaging £lO Is. At Midhirst on Friday, 10th inst., for the clearing sale in the estate of the late F. Uhlemberg, buyers were again present in good numbers. Best eows sold up to £l4 10s, the herd averaging £lO Ifis. Weaner heifers made £2 lis, farm horses £ls 10s to £2O 10s, On the same day at Waiwakaiho, for my fortnightly sale, there was a full .yarding, with spirited competition for everything ollered, all classes selling very freely, there being an unsatisfied demand at the conclusion of the sale. The herd of cows was a \ ei'v Mi:\ed lot, there 'being very few first-class cows in the line of G5; consequently prices were not high, the few good-looking cows showing to be early calvers selling at £l4 ss; others, mostly September and October calvers, from £0 us to £8 los, mixed weaners 30s, farm horses £22 to £23 10s, pedigree Jersey bull IS'/jj guineas. At Stratford on Tuesday, 20th, for my fortnightly sale, there was a full yarding of sheep, with a fair entry of cattle. The sheep attracted many buyers from all parts, including several from Ohura, and record prices were obtained. The majority of the entry were lambs, these making from 19s 4d to 22s 4d, culls lis 9d to 15s id, f.m. ewes in lamb 23s to 2os, good 2-tootli forward wethers 31s Id, mixed 2, 4, and 8-tooth store wethers 26s 2d,, fat cows £9 to £lO 5s fid, forward cows £7 2s 6d to £8 12s Gd, store cows £5 las to £6 18s, small store cows £4 12s to £5 3s, yearling steers £3 8a (id, yearling heifers 35s to £2 0s Gd, 20-month heifers (empty) £4 (is Gd, 20-month steers £5 8s to £G 17s Gd, Jersey in-calf 2-year heifers £G (is to £7 15s, 3-year bullocks £lO 3s. At Inglewood on Wednesday, 21st inst., there was a fair yarding, several lines of which were entered not being brought forward owing to the wet morning. Yearlings were in good demand. lOn the same day, at Mid'hirst, for Messrs Boniface Bros.' clearing sale, there was a large atten4ance of buyers, The dairy cows were a particularly good lot, calving early and in first-class condition. Bidding was spirited, the best rows selling up to £lB 10s, the herd of 03 averaging £l2 7s; yearling heifers made £3 9s, bull £ll Ifls, springing heifer £lO, farm horses £23 to £24 10s. Our next sale will be held on Tuesday, 27th inst., starting at 12.30 p.m. On Thursday, 15th inst., we held a clearing sale on account of Mr. A. Tookcr, Te Popo. Bulls made 90s to 015s, weaner steers 43s Gd, weaner 'heifers 47, cows (in fair condition and showing quality) 145s to 180s, medium quality 145s to 170s, three-teaters 100s to 120s, small Jerseys (coming in with second calf) 112s to 11-Ss. On Friday, lGth inst., we held a clearing sale at- Messrs Chamhey and Swan's homestead, Junction road, near Tarata. The day was fine, the attendance large, and competition was very keen from the start for both sundries and stock, but more particularly for the stock, which, we believe, brought record prices for Tarnnaki. The attendance was good and competition was keen for all cows showing quality.
