GOLF.
At the Ilawera golf links on Wednesday afternoon Messrs A. J. Glasson and L. Ritchie, members of the club, who have enlisted and are leaving shortly for camp, were given a send-off by their fellow members. A mixed foursome competition was played in the early part of the afternoon, in which about twenty pairs took part. An adjournment was then made to the clubhouse, where afternoon tea was served, and a presentation made to both members. Mr. O'Cal-lagha-n happily expressed the cordial appreciation felt by club members for their patriotic spirit in going to serve their King and country, and said that members felt they could not let them go without some mark of esteem. He therefore, on behalf of the club, had great pleasure in making to each a small presentation. Mr. Glasson was given a safety razoy and Air. Ritchie a ease of pipes. Both recipients suitably acknowledged the kind wishes of the members. Hearty cheers were given for both, and the gathering terminated.—Star.
