SOCIAL NEWS. PERSONAL Miss Glenn has returned to Hawera, after a short stay in New Plymouth. Miss Marriner (Auckland) is the guest of Mrs. A. H. Colvile. Miss Marshall is the guest of Mrs. Hamerton, Inglewood.

Mrs. and Miss Crooke have gone on a visit to' Wellington.

Mr. and Mrs. Maekie (Wanganui) are on a short visit to New Plymouth.

Mrs. Small, after a visit to New iPly mouth, has returned to Hawke's Bay.

Mrs. Sims (Hawera) spent a few days in New Plymouth this week.

Mrs. Collier, who has been oil a visit to Wellington and Wanganui, has returned.

Mi's. Horrax, who has hen visiting her mother (Mrs. F. P. Corkill), has returned to Motueka, Nelson.

Miss T. Crooke, who lias been relieving as a teacher ftt the Girls' School, Marton, lias returned.

Mrs. Birch-Johnston left on Thursday for Auckland, en route to Gistiorne, where she is to take the principal part in "San Toy," which is being acted by the amateur club there, the opening night being July 20. I AN ENTERTAINMENT. Last Monday a delightful entertainment was given in the Good Templar Hall in aid of the British Red Cross Society by the Lilliput Pierrots, and hearty congratulations must be given to the talented young performers. Their musical sketches, pianoforte solos, and dainty little dances have been excelled by very few professionals who have visited here. Those who took part in this charming little concert were Misses Eileen Clifford (chief), M. and V. Harrison, A. Taylor, and Masters Seymour and George Clifford. The stage was prettily decorated with ferns, evergreens and flags, the credit for which is due to Misses C. and K. -Leatham. The musical accompanyist was Miss C. Leatham.,

A WEDDING CEREMONY. Last Wednesday, at 11.30 a.m., a very quiet wedding was celebrated at th'ft residence of the bride's parents, when Miss Olive Ambury, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Ambury, was married to Mr. Percy Stainton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. A. B. Chappell, and Mr. W. Nicholl acted ac best man The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in s, cream tailored gaberdine costume, trimmed with silk military braid, crepm satin hat finished with ospreys. Miss Stainton (sister to the bridegroom), who acted as the only bridesmaid, was robed in a .pretty cream cloth costume, smart brown hat, deftly trimmed with pink. After the ceremony the relatives and a few intimate girl friends were entertaind at morning tea, after which the happy couple left by motor for Wani;anni, the bride travelling in. a very pretty tawn tailored gaberdine costume, gaberdine hat lined with wine colored silk, and a handscme set of stone martin furs.

Mrs. Walter Ambury (the bride's mother) wore a handsome black figured satin; Mrs. Stainton (bridegroom's mother, Auckland) was in black brocaded silk; Mrs. Arthur Ambury, sen., black crepe de chine, feather boa, and hat trimmed with ostrich plumes; Mrs Joe Ambury, brown cloth costume, pretty pale pink crepe de chine blouse; Mrs. Arthur Ambury, jun., pale" grey costume: pretty wallflower colored hat; Miss Ambury, black costume, black hat; Miss M Amimry was in a pretty French grey costume, grey hat lightened ,'jvith pale pinlc; Miss Harrison, navy blue I'ostnme, smart mole-colorcrl tagel hat; Mrs. Chappell wore a dove grey costume, black and white hat; Mrs. •Bii-ch-.Tohn-:-ton; Misses Gilbert (2),; B. Oliver; K. Bennett; C.Tellew.

GOLDEN WEDDING The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Chatterton, of Yogeltown, -was celebrated on Thursday. Two sons and three daughters, with their families, were present, one daughter being absent 011 holiday in England.:,. During the afternoon photos of the group were taken. Numerous congratulatory letters and telegrams were received, among which was one from the Whitelcy Church minister and stewards (Mr. Chatterton having been a local preacher for over 50 years), and from Revs. J. . Chapman, Reader, J. H. White (Wellington), Rev. F G. Brooke (Auckland) and others. Tlie wedding cake, three tiers, decorated with gold, was a feature of the table, which was very prettily arranged with golden (lowers. The family's present to the bride and bridegroom was a purse of sovereigns. A musical programme was submitted and added to the enjoyment of the gathering.
