CHEESE OUTPUTS.
AN IMPORTANT DECISION. REDUCTION IN PRICE.' (From, Our Own Correspondent}. Wellington, Last Night. The Taranaki farmerß, at meetings recently held at Hawera and Eltham, decided to offer their outputs to the Government, for War Office requirements, at 9y s d, the approximate average price ruling on the Home market during (the past season. ■ . > This price the Government considered too high, and harsh tilings were said about the greed of the Taranaki producers. The Prime Minister decided 1 to meet the North Island dairymen at (P»l----mertson North and see if a lower price could not he arranged. The meeting took place on Tuesday, as a result of which the dairy factory representatives decided to offer their whole output to the Government at B%d, "or half the output at Bd, with the proviso that the other half ia to be consigned Home through the usual channels and to have equal facilities of shipment with. the Government's half. Another Important proviso ia that if tfie Home Government requires more than 50 per cent, it is to have first call on the produce at Home, but at market prices. These proposals will formally beput hefore dairy companies at meeting* to be called shortly at different centres. If the proposals arc not accepted, independent action will be taken by tho New Zealand Government, and the prices fixed as it thinks equitable. Future proceedings will take place in camera, as did the meeting* in Wellingtor •*•"* Palmerston North.
