Mr. ,T. Dwycr, from the Magistrate's Court Office, Waimate, has taken up his duties at New Plymouth. Mr. Arthur Mcfotyre, of tho Treasury Department, Wellington, and formcrh '. •roll-known Taianaki ropresentata"? foothaller, ia visiting New Plymouth. Mr. rhilip Grey, son of Mr. George Grey, of New Plymouth, has passed his L.L.B. examination. Mr. Grey has joined Messrs. Weston and Weston's New Plymouth staff. The Rev X 0. Cook, curate at St. Mary's Church, has volunteered for service witli the ambulance, and is waitin" to be called up ° Mr. W. R. Leeder, of Grevtonn, has been appointed engineer to'the Patea County Council. ' There were 22 applicants for tfie position. Mr. and Mrs. J R. Chatterton, from Wellington, are on a visit to New Plymouth, to attend their parents' golden wedding. '
Rifleman Lewis Albert Warren, son of Mr. C, Warren, was wounded in both legs and left knee on June 5. Rifleman Warren joined the Bank of New South Wales after leaving the High School, and was transferred from New Plymouth to Auckland, at which centre he enlisted, He left with the 4th Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade.
Amongst the passengers who arrived by the mail train last night were Adjutant and Mrs. Holquist. The adjutant has been appointed to take charge of the Salvation Army in Nov* Plymouth. He will be accorded a public welcome in the Salvation Army Hall to-night. At Waitara yesterday, the Mayor, Mr. J». Beckbessinger, officially welcomed home Private Cyril Holswich, who left New Zealand with the sth Reinforcements, and has since been invalided back and has spent some time in New Plymouth hospital. Private Holswich was heartily cheered by those present at ihe conclusion of the Mayor's welcome. Tlie Waitara band was in attendance.
At the Methodist Church, Fit&roy, yesterday, the marriage took place of Trooper „ tfrneat Clow, of the Third Reinforcements, and Miss Bessie (Vcstlake Charteris, of Fitzroy. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C. A. Olds. The m-ide wore a navy bine serge costume and a black satin hat trimmed with white ostrich feathers. Miss Edie Griffiths was bridesmaid, and wore a frock of brown tweed and brown hat trimmed with pink. Mr. Arthur Lealand performed the duties of best man. The bride and bridegroom left by train for Wanganui, where the honeymoon will be spent.
