STANDISH HILL

„ TRAM EXTENSION URGED.

There was a large gathering of Standish Hill residents at a meeting in the West End Bowling Club's pavilion on Tuesday night, to discuss matters of intertest to the district, and to co-operate with the recently-formed Westown Progressives Association.

Mr. J. S. S. Medley, who was in the chair, briefly outlined the objects for which the meeting had been called. The district had made rapid strides in the last few years. He said that a school was needed, and that the extension of the trams up ilorley Street from Devon Street West to "Wallace Place was a necessity. Mr. 0. Clarke and Mr. J. D. Sole also addressed the meeting. After a short discussion it was decided, that this meeting, being representative of the Standish Hill district, decides to co-operate with the WestowiiDartmoor Association.

Mr. Sole said the W».3town Committee would be meeting on Thursday, and the following were appointed to confer with the Westown Committee: Messrs. J. Clarke, P S. Johns, E. Nops, h. B. Webster, V. Kllintt, H. Stockcr, R. B. Reid, and ..7. Lobb,

The question of tramways extension was discussed, and OB the motion of Messrs Stockej- and W. Bennett, it was decided that the meeting considered it advisable that the trams should be extended in the direction of Westown, in order to make the Morley Street section more payable, and to serve the We3town district, including the hospital.

One of those present remarked that if there was a school at Dartmoor he was sure it would have an attendance of 100. —The question of schools was held over, pending definite action concerning the proposed Westown School. * The roads and footpaths were referred to, and action will be taken by the two committees when they confer.

Mr. Sole remarked that when the extensions to Lake Rotokare wore completed, and a motor launch was purchased as contemplated, the new park would form an ideal picnic place, and become an' asset to the district.

A hall for meetings and other functions was also stated to be much needed,

Complaint was made that no trains run to Morley Street after the pictures, also that there is no service at all on this section on Sundays.—Mr. Webster considered the council was turning down good money, and it was decided to make representations on the matter. It was announced that a deputation would probably wait on the Borough Council next Monday, representing the whole of the Westown-Dartmoor-Stand-ish Hill district, petitioning for the tramways extension and other needs of the district. *

A vote of thanks was accorded the West End Bowling Club for the use of their pavilion.
