WEST END ANNUAL MEETING. annual meeting of members of the West End Bowling Club was held at the Town Hall last night, Mr. F. J. Hill presiding over a good attendance. The annual report congratulated the Club on its satisfactory financial position, the deficit of the previous year having been converted into a credit balance of £4 Us Id, after contributing .C 26 Is fld to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The green had been forked up and resown at very little cost, thanks to the assistance of members, who had also defrayed the cost ( £l3 fis), of two truckloads of Wanganui #oil for top dressing. TV Club had occupied the position Of runner-up at the Taranaki tournament, ami won the Banner and Gilmour Cup. The Club's championship singles was won by Mr. Lobb, who defeated Mr. lip.il. the winner in the previous year. Members were thanked for their assistance and interest, while the services of Ih ladies.were also recognised. The balance-sheet showed that receipts amounted to £167 2s 3d, and foenditure .CIS? 7s 10d, exclusive i«f last yenr't overdraft of £0 fls lid. The balance of assets over liabilities was stated as £343 13s 4d.
The report and balance-sheet wer« Adopted without discussion, Mi. J. D. Sole paying a tribute of praise to "the V-residcnt for his services.
The ctan'on of officprs resulted: President, Mr. J. D. Sole; vice-presidents, Messrs. F, Reston and Frank No well; secretary, Mr. A. A. Thompson; auditor, Mr. G. Thomson; delegates to Centre, Messrs. Sole and Frank Newel!; committee, Messrs. Honoyfield, Johnson, F. J. Hill, Beal, Lobb. Wood, and Lee' selector, Mr. J. D. Sole.
The subscription was fixed at the samt as last year.
Mr. J. J). Sole reported relative to the money collected for the Wounde3 Soldiers' Fund. It was decided to leave the question of distribution of the fund in the hands of the Centre.
Mr. J. D. Sole moved that all competitions except the Club's championship be abolished. The motion wa's carried. It was decided to divide the competition for the championship into two classes —seniors and .juniors —tc be drawn up by the committee, any junior player to have the right to enter in the senior class, but in that case to forfeit his right to compete in the junior class. It was also decided to recommend the Mutch Committee to devise a scheme for the championship contests to take place on fixed dates.
The General Committee was empowered to appoint a Match Committee. The question of the Banner competi l tion was discussed. Mr. Sole expressed the opinion that the present conditions were unsatisfactory and he hoped'they would be altered. He strongly ndvd-' cated that these matches should bo regarded as friendly contests and not as "out to win."
Mr. Frank Newell stressed the point of giving young players an inducement to join the Club by providing them with games.
Mr. Sole suggested solving the problem by confining the contest to one rink from each club.
Mr. Bea! regarded last year's conditions as a farce, and he' particularly took exception to the name of the winning club not being placed on the banner. He moved that it be a recommendation to the Centre to alter the conditions to those existing in 1914-15. Carried.
An honorarium of three guineas was voted to the secretary. Votes of thanks were passed to the Indies, the press, and the retiring president.
