FOOTBALL.
TE AUTE V. N.P. HIGH SCHOOL. Our sporting contributor "Moturoa" •writes:—"ln the Daily News of the 14th '.nst., I was pleased to read that Mr. Moyes, Principal of the New Plymouth High School, has arranged for a football match to be ]>l)iyed at New Plymouth between teams representing.the fe Aute Maori College and the New Plymouth High School. As a keen follower of the Rug'-y game I can assure football enthusiasts in the Taranaki province that this will be a game worth travelling miles to witness, and even apart from the patriotic aspect of the match, no follower of the grand okl game should be missing on Saturday next. For years the main attraction of "People's Day" at the Show has been the Te Aute-Wanganui College match, and it is no exaggeration to say thai thousands o f people have made the "pilgrimage'' year after year, to Pal.nerston solely to witness that keenly contested game. That the trip lias proved worth while may be concluded by the presence of the same enthusiastic crowd each year. The officials of the Palmerston Show regard it as their trump drawing card, and no doubt they know their business best. Football, as played by pupils of the Te Aute, Wanganiu, Wellington, St. Patrick's, and other colleges, is football as it should be played, and the Maoris in particular play the clean open game that is delightful to watch. There is therefore every reason why Taranaki should make the occasion of the Te Ante-New Plymouth match >i big day, and the patriotic funds should be considerably augmented thereby. Taranaki is in for a football treat."
On Saturday the High Schoo]"|sam defeated a team of Old Bovs by 2<i points to 6.
