THE VERDUN ATTACK. ANOTHER EFFORT. * ) Times and Sydney Sun Services. London, June 15. A correspondent in Paris says the magnitude of the Russian victories and the prospective Italian counter-offensive indicate clearly that continued French resistance at Verdun is the key to the Allied arch of victory. 'lf the Germans intend to achieve even a moral success at Verdun they must reach the objective shortly, otherwise they must admit defeat. There has been a pause in infantry fighting since Vaux was captur-" ed, and for the last four days both sides have been busily preparing new field ar-, tillcry positions. Military men agree that another gigantic effort will be made during the next few. days to pierce the strong defences, covering the six kilometres separating the Crown Prince from Verdun. Prisoners say that new corps have been brought to participate in the assault on the last of the Verdun forts.
