MISERY IN SERBIA.
: WHOLESALE LOOTING. Times and Sydney Sun Services. 1 London, June 14. The Times' correspondent at Bucharest reports that escaped Serbian and Russian prisoners declare that there is indescribable misery in Serbia. The AustroGermans have seized stores and crops, and are shooting peasants who conceal food. Wholesale plundering is proceeding, and the principal residences of Belgrade have been completely cleared of furniture and valuables. Looting is expressly permitted in an order of,the day issued by General Mackensen, ami military motor-cars are to be seen proceeding to houses and filling with plunder. People in the country are starving, eating grass and berries, and frequently dying. The former prefect of Belgrade is compelled to sweep the .streets.
