A Wellington telegram states that private advice has been received from London of the death of Mr. Edward Mills, director of K. W. Mills and Co. Mr A. Morton, chairman of the National Itairy Association, was a passenger for WellWgton yesterday. Messrs. Forsyth, Marx, and Powdrell proceeded to Wellington yesterday on busings in connection with the proposed amalgamation of bacon companies. Captain C. T. Prowse, who was in command nf the Queen Mary, sunk in the North Sea battle, was formerly commander of 11, M.5. Powerful, on the Australian station. Hn married a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. J. Brady, of Sydney. An old Auckland identity, in the person of Captain Francis Brodie, passed away on Monday, at his residence, Lake St. John, Rem'uera. Captain Brodie joined Her Majesty's 71st Highland Light Infantry at an early age. His regiment was sent to India, and took part in the Umballah campaign, in which some severe fighting was experienced. He saw much of the late Lord .Roberts, who at that time held the rank of captain. The late Bishop Cowie was also there, and one of the deceased's most cherished possessions was a sketch of the bishop returning to camp at the head of a small force, and bearing a standard captured from the enemy. In after years he wrote a book, compiled from a diary of his experiences during that campaign, and circulated the same amongst his old military friends.
