NORTH EGMONT HOSTELRY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The fact of the North Egmont Hostel being kept open for the winter, and that a stall is kept on hand, has 'nought along quite a number of visitors who otherwise would not visit this popular resort. During the past six weeks (called the winter season) the weather and clear atmosphere have been more perfect than that of last summer, and, apart from the fact that the koninis have lost their leaves, the forest is as glorious a? ever. Quite a number of visitors being under the impression that meals are not now provided as in the summer season, the management wishes it to be known that accommodation and meals can be had at all times, exactly the same as in the summer. 'Mr. Pott, ot Africa, accompanied by his daughter, arrived from New Plymouth, and with Mr. Williams made the ascent to the summit of Mount Egmont on Tuesday. The day was perfect from every point of view, and the South Island showed up more plainly than at any other time in the knowledge of the guide. The different mountains and ridges could be observed quite plainly without the aid of glasses. Some brainless individual has altered the signboard showing the different roads to Dawson Falls and Bell's Falls, which are in exactly opposite directions, WMtli the result that three young men on Sunday last, intending to go to Dawson Falls, followed the direction of the signboard and found themselves very late in the day at Kalmi House. Being told at the North Hostel that they could'procure dinner at the Falls House, and, of course, there being nothing at the Kahui House, one can imagine how they felt when they returned to the North Hostel, where they arrived very late in the evening, the manager and another man having started out to-look for them. The followng are the names of the , visitors to the North Egmont Hostel during the past week, apart from a large number from New Plymouth and district: Miss E. Cuddy (Petone), J. Wilson, Mina Wilson, Rhoda Wilson, Alex. Meldrum, Alex. Ross (Hunterville). 1. Mcliae, G. C. Tothill, G. Tothill, W. Fawkes, R. L. Swanson (Christchurch), F. Read, E. Ellis (Pihama), D. H. Brown (Mount Thomas), L. Mnnro, F. Walker, M. Brownson (Auckland), A. M. Jamieson, H. H. Jamieson, F. A. McFarlane (Cambridge), Mi. Pott, Miss Pott (South Africa).
