NOTES The Marine Deportment advises that the wreck of the Southern Isles, which was floating about to the danger of navigation, has been towed into Nelson by the sma.ll steamer Koi, wliicli was dispatched for that purpose on Saturday.

The returns of the Westport Harbor Board show that for the month of May the Westport Coal Company had an output of 45,313 tons of coal and 158 tons lof coke, of which 41,044 tons and 141 tons respectively were exported. The VVestport-Stoekton Coal Company showed an output of 15.020 tons of "coal, of which 14,810 tons were exported. Some 14,810 tons of coal were shipped to foreign ports. During the month 104,87-1 super feet of timber were exported. In the course of the month 54 steamers entered the port, of a total tonnage of 31,45!) tons, while 57 steamers, aggregating 33,000" tons, left the port, making a total tonnage for the month of 04,459 tons. The schooner Maror/j had a narrow escape from being driven ashore near the Kaipara Bar recently. Owing to the heavy sea running she became unmanageable, and being in danger of going ashore signalled for assistance. Captain Hatching; of the steamer Toiler, immediately went to her help, and was successful in getting a tow-line on board. The line parted no fewer than seven times. The captain of the Toiler stuck to his task, and after some time managed to tow the M«roro to a safe anchorage.
