NEWTON KING'S REPORT, On Monday, sth inat., at Douglas, I had a small entry, nil of which was sold at the following prices:—Store and. forward cows £5 lis to £7 l»s fid, bulls £0 7s Od, 2-year steers £U ss, empty 20-months heifers £4 ss, mixed weaners 27s (kl to £2 10s, choice springing heifer £lO. At Kaimata on the same day for Mr. J Dunwoodie's clearing sale I had a large attendance from all parts of the district. Dairy cows showing to be early calvers sold well making up to £l4 ss, but the backward-looking sorts were not in such good demand, selling at from £7 10s to £9 ss. Sheep and sundries made top prices. Two-year in-calf heifers also sold well. At Stratford on Tuesday, oth inst., for my fortnightly sale 1 had a full yarding, the majority again being farmers' cattle, and I had no difficulty in clearing practically the lull yarding at advanced prices throughout. Yearling steers made from £3 to £3 12s Gd. small and weedy ■3os Od to 455, best weaner heifers £2 3s to £2 12s Od, weaners 83s (id to 38s, empty 20-month heifers £3 12s Gd to £4 9s, small £3 to -'£3'ns, choice in-calf 2-year Jersey heifers £9 2s Od, good sorts £5 2s to £5 10s, choice springing heifers up to £lO, others up to £0 7s (id, 20-month steers £0 7s, rough 15month steers £4, 2'/., to 3-year steers
Cfl, small store cows £4 13s to £5 12s lid, good fresh store cows £0 to £0 15s, forward cows £7 7s to £S las, fat cows £9 to £ll 12s 6d, bulls £S to £lO 10s, cull ewes 14s 3d, cull lambs 9s 7d to l'2s, small lambs 14s 9d, fat and forward ewes 23s to 23s 2d.
At Inglewood on Wednesday, 7th, there was a smaller entry than usual, all of which was sold under keen competition as follows:—Yearling steers £2 ]2s fid to £3 3s, yearling heifers up to £2 13s, empty heifers £3 lis to £3 18s Cd, store cows £5 Is to £0 ISs, forward cows £7 8s lid to £8 12s, fat cows up to £lO 7s Od, springing heifers £0 17s fid to £8 las.
On Friday, ftth inst., at Kaponga, there was a fair entry, competition being good, prices realised heing: Weancr heifers 31s to 455, Holstein weaner bulls £3 10s, fat cows up to £lO Bs, forward cows £7 las to £8 14s, store cows £5 10s to £0 15s Cd, empty heifers £3 9s to £l, good line of 20-month steers £0 las, springing heifers £lO ss. On the same day at Rahotu there was a good entry, for which I had keen bidding, everything being sold, with the exception of two pens of small 20-mouth in-calf heifers. Yearling steers made £3 (Is to £3 Bs, smaller 37s Od to £2 Ifls Cd, mixed steers and heifers £2 4s, yearling heifers £2 19s Od to £3 2s Od, others 38s to £2 2s Cd, empty 20-month heifers £3 10s, fat cows £9 2s to £ll 2s, forward cows £7 12s to £S 4s, store cows £5 lis to £0 12s Od, choice Jersey 2-year in-calf heifers £lO 10s, good sorts £7 15s.
On the same day at Waitara, for Mr. Wm. Cole, junr.'s sale, there not being any sundries to offer, there was not a large attendance of the public. The prices obtained for the pedigree Holstein cows, 10 to 38' guineas, were on the whole disappointing, but the young pedigree heifers and bulls and the grade cattle sold much better, very satisfactory prices being obtained for these. Empty pedigree IS-mor.th heifers made from 12'/» to 29gns., young pedigree bulls 8 to 20 guineas, grade cows £lO to' £l3 10s, aged cows £0 10s to £8 ss, empty 20-month Holstein heifers £3 lis, weaner heifers £3 13s, weaner bulls £3 7s to £4-9s.
On Saturday, 12th inst., at the Haymarket, New Plymouth, I offered 17 waggon horses on account of Mr. R. F. Roebuck, of Okato. The best of these were sold at from £l3 5a to £2O 10s, others £7 10s to £l3 ss.
