He served ill the Royal Artillery, and saw active service in the N W. frontier of India between ISO 7 and ISPS, there gaining a medal and clasp. In tlie South African War, 1000, he was severely wounded. He also served in Aden from 1003 to 1004. The outbreak of the present war gave him bis opportunity of rapidly coming to the front, for when it began he held the rank of major. lie was a typical member of what is known as "the Kitchener School" of officers. > Colonel A. 0. 0. Sir Hay Frederick Donaldson has been technical adviser to the Minister' of Munitions since 101">. lie was born in lSSti, and was a son of tlie late Sir Stuart Alexander Donaldson, first Premier of New South Wales. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College (Dublin), also at Edinburgh and Zurich Universities. He was one of the most distinguished railway engineers of the present time, anil since 1003 had been Chief Superintendent of Ordnance Factories. Among the positions of high honor in the engineering world which lie had occupied were the' following: —President Institution of Mechanical Kngineers, member of Council of Civil Engineers, member of Iron and Steel Institute, member of the Board and Executive Committee of the National Physical Laboratory; anil he was engaged upon the Manchester Ship Canal, Uoa Harbor works, and was abo chief engineer of the London-India Docks Joint Committee. Mr. Hugh James O'Beirne, C.8., C.V.0,. was Councillor of the Petrograd Embassy. He was Attache at Petrograd in 1K!(2; 2nd Secretary, Washington, from 18!)."i to 180S; and Secretary at the British Embassy from 1000 to 1900.
