Six o'clock closing will operate with* out further Parliamentary intervention, as soon as the returning officers' declaration of the successful hour is gazetted, which will probably be within a fortnight. , The result is beyond the expectation of the most sanguine supporters. Both sides admit that it was a fair/ fight; The president ,ot the Licensed Victuallers' Association expected a cloae contest, and is surprised at the big majority. He 3ays that it was * woman's day all right, and the result will mean a tremendous loss to the present licensees whose goodwill values will be reduced. The Ministers' Association will appeal to Parliament as soon as it meets tp legislate, to reduce hotel rentals and licensing fees, and allow publicans to supply soft drinks and light refreshments till eleven o'clock at night.
