MR. BOOSEVELT DECLINES. MR. HUGHES' POLICY. DENUNCIATION OF MR, WILSON". Chicago, June 10. Mr. Roosevelt declined the Progre* sives nomination, in order to avoid splitting the Republican vote. Chicago, June 10, The Republicans nominated Mr. Hughes practically unanimously. The Progressives then immediately nominated Mr. Roosevelt amidst acclamation. Chicago, June 11. Renter's correspondent says that Mr. Roosevelt telegraphed conditionally declining nomination, asking to bo placed in the hands of the Progressive National Committee until he was satisfied whether the interests of the United States would be served by Mr. Hughes' election. Mr. Hughes, in accepting nomination, criticised President Wilson's Mexican policy as weak and vacillating. He interfered without consistency, while seek-. ing to dictate where he was not concerned. He bad utterly failed to appreciate and discharge his ,>lain duty to his own citizens. He (Mr. Hughes) desire to see American diplomacy restored to its best standard. He advocated undivided Americanism, thorough' preparedness in military and industrial restoration, protective tariffs, and encour-, agement of American commerce at Home and abroad.

Roosevelt, la an interview reiterated that he was out of politics, and said to the reporter that it was useless to visit him, as them was nothing to say. It was uncertain whether he would support Mr. Hughes, Mr. Roosevelt's intimates say that the chief obstacle is Mr. Hughes' failure to repudiate in a square statement the methods of the German- American alliance. ~
