ITALY.

THE MILITARY POSITION. CABINET TO EE REORGANISED. Rome, June 11. In the Chamber, Signor Salandra added: ''Favorable conditions enabled the enemy to gain an initial success on the Italian front. We must show manly courage and admit that if better prepared fo. the enemy's advance we conkl have held them a little longer. But they have been arrested, and have made little progress ■ inee the first easy success. He would be a bold man who would say the critical moment bad been successfully passed because the flanks had been stopped by our heroic resistance in the centre, but we can view the final outcome with confidence.'' The vote of ?onfidenee was negatived by 197 votes to 158. Certain Cabinet resignations will lie announced on .Monday.

FALL DUE TO INTRIGUES. A PAINFUL SITUATION. Rome, June 11 The Cabinet crisis is the culmination of long-whispered complaints alleging lukewarm conduct of the war and the aloofness of the Government from Parliament and the people. The supporters of the Government deplore the action at the most inopportune moment in the height of the Austrian offensive. The Government organisers describe the situation as simply painful. They declare that the military situation was cleverly used to influence certain deputies, whose anxiety was easily aroused and who considered the only remedy was a National Ministry of all'parties." Signer Salandra, although not opposing the extension of the Ministry, has not adopted the proposal, preferring resignation and giving King Emmanuel an opportunity to reconstruct the Ministry on a national basis. All parties agree that the war must be conducted more vigorously and in closer union with the Allies.
