PARLIAMENT.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. By Xelegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 9. The Council met at ,2.30. Hon. J. T. Paul asked whether, in view of the continued and increasing exploitation of rent-payers (among whom are many soldiers' dependents) by landlords, the Government will follow the example of Great Britain and some other countries suffering by the present war and introduce legislation to give immediate relief. Hon. Sir F. H. D. Bell replied that legislation in the direction indicated was being prepared. Hon. 0. Samuel moved: That the report of the committee on Parliamentary piocedure, which was brought up on June 7, be agreed to, and that the standing rules or orders of the Council be amended accordingly. Some discussion tool; place upon the details, and the Council went into comImittee to consider the report. The recommendations were accepted by the Council, which adjourned at 4.55 until Wednesday next.
