ASSISTING THEIR DEPENDENTS THE MAYORESS' FUND. At the Winter Show, Mr. D. B, Mutton presented two pictures for a guessing competition, tlic proceeds ol which were to form a nucleus of a fund that Mrs. Burgess was starting in aid of the widows and orphans of sailors who had lost their lives in the great naval battle. The officer of the Defence Department and the members of the Rifle Club, who were in charge of the recruiting stall, assisted with the sale of tickets, and as a result £49. 3a was collected. The winners wero Mrs. 'Penman and Sergeant Okey. Mrs. Burgess has decided to make the amount up to £IOO, and has forwarded a cheque to make up that amount. We will be pleased to receive and aekonwledge any further contributions towards this deserving object. The fund now stands:Proceeds of pictures donated bv Mr. Hutton £42 3 0 Mrs. C. rl.
