Stenhouse, interviewed, said that though he was personally unacquainted with the waters round Elephant Island, he had studied the conditions and was of opinion that it would take a relief ship from two to three weeks from the time of starting tomorrow. The breaking up of the northward pack would necessitate cautious seamanship during the long nights, thus curtailing the speed.
