The city is full of delegates and visitors, and it is impossible to obtain hotel accommodation. The Progressives and Re. publicans occupy two enormous betels, wherein brass bands, orators, and cheering crowds contribute to the pandemonium, The newspapers arc filled with eonllicting reports. Sonic assert that the Vrogrcssives will reject nnvone h"t Roosevelt, others say that a compromise is probable, and will be realised. If Roosevelt runs on the third ticket thero will he a split amongst the Republicans that is almost certain to give Mr. Wilson the Presidency. The newspapers assert that the convention is most important, and will make world history. Tbirtv thousand women suffragists inarched to-day to the convention to demand the support of woman's suffrage. Meanwhile. Mr. Roosevelt is at Oyster Bay, where he cheerfully discusses da. velopments at the convention, It is rumoured that a New York count showed 50 votes in favor of Mr. Hughes, 23 for Mr. Klilm Root, and only a few for Mr| Roosevelt. Congress adjourned, after an address by Senator Harding, temporary chairman. There was a tumultous demonstration at the Progressive convention when Mr. Raymond Robins, in a stirring address, referred to Mr. Roosevelt as the foremosi 'citizen in the world. Tho enormous crowd cheered, sang, shouted and marched through the aisles. Tha demonstration lasted Oil minutcsf and the audience chanted, "We Want Teddy!" Speeches were resumed after scene* of unparalleled enthusiasm.
