THE VERDUN FkoNT. GERMAN ATTACKS REPELLED. AT VERDUN AND ARRAS. Wellington, June 6. The High Commissioner reports under date London, June (i (4.10 p.m.):— On the right bank of the Meuse two German attacks during the course of the night between Vaux and Damloup completely failed. London, June 6. Mr. Hughes is visiting France and is profoundly impressed by the spectacle of France in this great crisis. London, Juno 8. Sir Douglas Haig reports that the enemy made a number of unsuccessful raids at Boirelle and Arras. We entered the German trenches at five.points between Ouinchy and Fauquissant.
VERY HEAVY FIGHTING. ENEMY PENETRATE OUR FRONT TRENCHES. Received June 7, 9 p.m. London, June 7. General Haig reports that verv heavy fighting took place on Tuesday afternoon east of Ypres. A heavy enemy bombardment about Hooge and the Ypres-Comines railway and canal began at midday, and they also 1 exploded a series of mines north of Hooge. This was followed by unsuccessful enemy attacks between Hooge and the canal. The enemy penetrated our front trenches immediately north of Hooge after the explosion of a mine. Fighting continues, but our general line is still intact. VIOLENT ARTILLERY FIGHTING. BEFORE VERDUtf. ! Received June 7, 9 p.m. I Paris, June 7.
