(By "Moturoa."V The Ellerslie meeting twill be continued to-day (Monday), when the Great Northern Steeplechase (3j miles), Prince of Wales Handicap (7 furlongs), and Remuera Hurdles (2 miles), will come up for decision. The gathering closes on Wednesday, when the Winter Steeple* (3 miles), York Welter (1 mile), and Campbell Hurdles (2 miles), will engage attention. A large number of promising horses will be seen out at the gathering, which promises to be a memorable 'one. The Otaki meeting concludes to-day. An innovation in the "Wanganui racecards was the inclusion of the trainers' places of residence. Thus: Trainer, J George, New Plymouth; R. Brough, Hawera; W. Rayner, Wanganui. Where there are so many Camerons,. Smiths, Barlows, etc. training horses it serves as a distinguishing mark to tjxose who are not well versed in the line. Rather a smart three-year-old in the shape of Lightning (Bezonian—Nerve), got away with a race at Wanganui on Saturday before last. She is a fullsister to Bourlang, the crack two-year-old in 'Stralia this season, and is ? halfsister to that good horse Balboa. Rorke's Drift appears to be the "daddy" of the distance horses in the South, and on Thursday was responsible for a fine performance when he won the Diinedin Birthday Handicap under 10st., from a good field. Another notable win was that of Crib, who made light of 12.13 when he cantered home in the van in the Pacific Hurdles. Husliman and Crown Pearl are a pair that will carry heaps of Taranaki coin when started at Ellerslie. Both are very well.
