TARANAKI PRESBYTERY.
The Taranaki Presbytery met in wera last week, and the Rev. T. 11. Roscvcarc presided iii the unavoidable absence of the Moderator ("Kev. 1). Mc- • Ivor). A call from TCltham to the Rev. Kinest Culliford was presented by tin- Rev. •I. S. Shore, moderator of tint parish. It was supported hy Messrs. Murray and Chiivg, who stated that a very cordial - feeling existed towards Mr. Onlliford, and that there was no dissont. The call < was signed by <>4 members and «i 7 adherents. It was decided that the call be sustained. Reports were received of vacancies in the charges of Stratford, Kltlntm, Manaia, and Opuuake. and that steps were being taken to fill those vacancies, but there might be some delay in doing no owing to the scarcity of ministers. It was decided to make application to the New Century Fund for n grant to purchase a church section at Tuhora, Reports were received of successful evangelistic services having been held by Evangelist dimming at Wavorloy, i Patea, Manaia and Op muse. It was decided to retain Mr. Cnmming's services until the end of August, with the intention of having special services in all the .charges. Mr. Shore reported to the Presbytery that Mr. Melville had presented a library of theological books, to be divided among the Home Missionaries. A resolution was passed thanking Mr. Melville for the collection. The following motion was carried unanimously: "That this Presbytery places on record its high appreciation of the, excellent work carried out in this Presbytery by the Rev, W, 11. Howes and the Rev. J. Pattison, who have removed to other spheres. Mr. Howes has labored most successfully for five and a-half years in the parish ot Manaia, and Ims won the esteem of all. He Ims been most arduous in his labors and has been rewarded with good results; as Prosbytcry clerk he has filled the position most admirably, and has been both efficient and painstaking, and his services in this respect will bo much missed. The Rev. J. Pattison's term of three and a-half years in Stratford was coincident with a distinct advance in -.the spiritual life and organisation of the congregation; he was successful in bringing the congregation out of difficulties into marked /' prosperity. As a presbyter he was much v ; esteemed, and he willingly and efficiently tpok his part in the work of the church. The Presbytery aesires to e»jpress to these brethem their hearty good wishes and prays that the blessing of God may continue with them."
