WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitura, Yesterday. The first of a series of Band oF Hope meetings is being held in the Foresters' Hall to-morrow evening, and should be largely attended. An excellent programme is to be submitted. A gigantic effort is to be made on Saturday towards further improving the East Beach Improvement Society's track to the beach. A few members of the committee hi 1 e been doing good work to the track, and all that is required at present is the turfing which it is hoped to have completed this season. Given favorable wenther there should be a large gang on the beach on Saturday to push this good work on. A number of lads were charged by the Defence Department at the Magistrate's Court last Wednesday with failure to attend drill and were convicted as follows: Ned Br.'.wn fined 5s with costs 7s, nnd C. J. Cuii'mings costs 7s. The cases of C. S. Crow and J, Knuckey were dismissed, and the case of Edgar Tate was .adjourned to the 28th June.
