EGMONT A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
l ANNUAL MEETING J [ A.t the annual meeting of members of I the Egmont A. and P. Association at j Hawera on Saturday, the president reported that there was a net loss of £IBO Os lOd on the year's working, but this ! was more apparent than real so far as the actual period under review was concerned. "In past years it has been customary to include as an asset the bal- I ance of unpaid subscriptions as appear- ] ing on the Association's register, in"; some cases three or four years' arrears ' being brought into account. Last year j we showed in this way an unpaid bal- j ance of £184; of this sum £65 has been ! collected, and the register has been c?.rc- ! fully gone through, with the result that j £lB only can ibe marked as good, mal;- j ing a total of £8:1. The remainder ( £101) has been wiped off. Of the suli- j scriptions for 1915 it is considered that £ll6 imw be .safely reckoned on as ( good, and that sum has therefore been ! added to the £lB, making a total, as j shown in the balance-sheet, of £134. "Our revenue has been very. little | short of last year's, but there lias been ' increased expenditure, the principal j causes of outlay being: (1) Caretaker's j wages, £100; (2) increased rates, £23; j (3) increased interest, £IS; (4) increas- | ed advertising and printing, £5; (a) I increased general expenses. Here let me say that membership is the life- I blood of the Association. This Asso- I ciation should have a membership of i over 1000, whereas it can only muster ! 775 effective members, despite the fact ' that 173 new names were added last j year. We have lost by deaths, resigna- i tions, departures from the district and I volunteers for active service a total of 128 members, so that it requires ccasci less effort to keep our flag flying. Se far as the show itself was concerned, it was not up to the standard of last year's show, but this Association has suffered in common with all others. . So many men have left for the front that the labor problem has been a serious difficulty, and a great many exhibitors have been deterred from showing on that account." The receipts totalled £2040, and comprised members' subscriptions, £707 (£08(1); special prizes, £302 (£328); entry fees, £335 (£301); weight iudg--1 ing.'£4l (£44); rents, £228 ( £228); , privileges, £123 (£140); gates, £2Bl (£248); grandstands, £fl (£18); catnlogues, £l2 (£11). The total receipts last year were £2078. Liabilities were as follows:—Capital account, £SSS7; mortgage on grounds, £2000; Bank of New Zealand, £326; accrued interest, £4O. Assets were set down at: Property, £5000; improvement account, £3041: outstanding subscriptions, 1014, £18; 1015. £116; (1012, ,£(!; 1013. £42; 1014, £136); outstanding special prizes, 1014, £8: 1015. £45 (1013. £3; 1914, £15); accounts, .CO (£9); rents, £44 (£45); advertisements, £2 (£6). To balance transferred from profit and loss, £lB6 0s lOd. The acting-secretary (Mr. Lennon) mentioned that the amount collected in members' subscriptions last year was ': , £686. 1 ' i
