A HAWERA SENSATION.
DEFENCE OFFICER BEFORE TBI COURTS COMMITTED FOR TRIAIj, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. As a sequel to the recent death of the young woman, Edna Beatrice Hogg, in the Wanganui hospital, Richard Patrick Pollard, sergeant-major in the Defence forces at Hawera, was diarged the Magistrate's Court to-day>«itß il-' ■■>■ legally using an instrument with intent to procure miscarriage. . Dr. Earle, honorary surgeon at th« ' Wanganui hospital, said that the woman's death was due to blood poisoning. The principal witness for the poHc« was Frederic Timing, a typewriter expert, who stated that a letter purporting to be sent by accused to deceased was typed on a Royar Barlock typewriter in the Defence office at Hawera. He said that the machine had imperfections, and certain letters were re. peated consistently in correspondence which was typed on the machine. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial.
